Transitional Housing

At five of the six HOMES houses, transitional housing residents are offered the option of becoming “permanent” residents when they obtain Section 8 certificates. (The only house that is strictly transitional is the Cypress House in Orange, with a stay limited to 24 months or less.) Additionally, all of the residents at Jackson Aisle Apartments have the opportunity to remain housed there permanently with “Shelter + Care” rental subsidy.

In addition to supportive services provided by HOMES, residents also receive support from other agencies. All residents receive medication services from mental health treatment providers in the community, and many have case managers as well. Some residents participate in Clubhouse or partial hospitalization programs, therapy groups, or self-help organizations. HOMES residents also receive support from Trinity United Presbyterian Church in the form of food baskets, camp scholarships, holiday parties and decorations, one-to-one mentoring for interested residents or alumni, and free admission to church choir and dramatic performances. Individual donors provide support in the form of transportation to outings, donation of exercise equipment or other needed items, and teaching recreational activities at the annual Mountain Respite Camp.

Jackson Aisle Apartments

Since 2003, Jackson Aisle has provided 29 studio apartments in Midway City for previously homeless single adults recovering from mental illness. In addition to mental health treatment from County or County-contracted service providers, there is a case manager on-site at Jackson Aisle seven days a week to assist residents. Residents receive rental subsidies from the “Shelter + Care” Section 8 program, which allows them to pay only one-third of their income for rent. Jackson Aisle has a community lounge with a computer, TV and DVD player, exercise equipment, and organized social activities.
