HOMES residents are provided with all the support and materials they need to live independently. The houses are completely furnished, including kitchen appliances, household linens, and eating utensils. HOMES also supplies supplemental food and cleaning supplies when donations are received, and staff members work with residents to make sure that each is responsible for his or her individualized chores and personal meal preparation.

Residence at HOMES helps clients gain the skills needed for self-sufficient living, and makes a lasting impact on their skill levels and quality of life. As residents graduate from HOMES into completely independent living, they are assisted with obtaining furniture and housekeeping “starter kits” to help them establish their new home. (“Starter kits” include cleaning supplies, household paper products, and other items necessary for successful independent living.)

Donating items is an effective way of assisting H.O.M.E.S. in its efforts to help the mentally ill in Orange County. Useful supplies include non-perishable food, cleaning products, paper goods, light bulbs, household linens, cooking and serving wares, etc. Appliances and furniture in good working condition are often accepted, primarily for donation to individual residents who are “graduating” into their own apartment.

 

List of items HOMES needs include:
  • Modern PC monitors, printers and systems able to run Windows XP. The computers may be used in houses, the HOMES office, or by residents and alumni who are attending computer classes, need to search for jobs or wish to communicate with family and friends
  • Office equipment and supplies.
  • Furniture, working appliances (especially refrigerators and televisions) as well as household items for residents moving to their own apartments.
  • Items or services that can be sold at fund-raising auctions. The revenue derived from these items will help support HOMES programs.
  • Tickets to community events, to be used as activities for HOMES residents and alumni.
