Sponsors create a solid base of support for HOMES, enabling the organization to provide high-quality services and housing to adults recovering from mental illness, including those coming from homelessness. In Orange County there are an estimated 4,500 mentally ill homeless people sleeping in the streets each night; HOMES offers transitional and permanent housing with support to this population. By providing appropriate housing and supportive services and encouraging residents to become involved in community activities, HOMES is helping to reduce homelessness, psychiatric hospitalizations, and incarceration of mentally ill individuals in Orange County.
Financial and “in-kind” sponsorships help HOMES to provide strong supportive services to residents, as well as frequent social and recreational activities. A major recreational event organized by HOMES is the annual Mountain Respite Camp, which brings mentally ill adults to the mountains for four days to enjoy fellowship, adventure activities, and “a vacation from mental illness.” Sponsorship helps pay for transportation, scholarships, and activity supplies at the Camp.”
